What is Batak Tribe ???
Batak is a tribe originating from Indonesia precisely in the province of North Sumatra, Batak tribe has 6 sub-ethnic divisions namely: Toba, Angkola, Pakpak, Simalungun, Mandailing, Karo. All of these sub-ethnic Batak tribes have clans that have been inherited by their descendants and besides that many clans have been used by more than one sub-ethnic group only.
According to how his imprint began, about 3000 years ago. Batak civilization began a long run as a race Proto Malay (Melayu Tua). This tribe is famous for having high customs, traditions, philosophies of life and beliefs. And according to the beliefs of the Batak Nation, Marga batak started from Si Raja Batak who is believed to be the origin of the Batak people.
Si Raja Batak has two sons, Guru Tatae Bulan and Si Raja Isumbaon. The Guru Tatae Bulan Has 5 sons namely Raja Uti (Raja BiakBiak), Saribu Raja, Limbong Mulana, All Kings, and Malau Raja. Meanwhile, King Isumbaon has 3 sons named Tuan Sorimangaraja, Si Raja Asiasi, and Sangkar Somalidang. From their descendants, then spread all over the area in Tapanuli, both to the north and south so that various kinds of Batak clans emerged (and there are already 497 Batak clans to date, Source Wikipedia)
Throughout the history of the Ancient Batak Tribe (Toba Tua) in Sumatra, there have been 3 royal departments that unite various tribal groups that are related to several tribes from southern India, the interior of Myanmar (Burma) to the Kingdom of Thailand and Tibet, which previously inhabited islands and islands Sumatran since centuries BC (+ 1500 BC), leader of the leader (Primus inter pares) that houses the quarter-dynastic clans, kingdoms in the land of Batak tribe (Up to Aceh) and Raja - Raja Marga and Provincial Forest.
The three dynasties started from the Sori Mangaraja Dynasty which was led by a hereditary king with the title Sori Mangaraja which is the language adaptation of the title Sri Maharaja, this dynasty stood for almost 300-500 years from the 7th century to the 12th century AD and where the center of government is located in Lobu Tua, Barus and Pansur which became port cities and trade centers. The end of this dynasty occurred due to an attack by the Chola kingdom which originated from India with the Srivijaya kingdom including its territory.
The second dynasty, the Hatorusan Dynasty, was
led by the King who held the title King Hatorusan, where this dynasty attempted
to rebuild the city order, traditions and glory of the Sori Mangaraja dynasty,
its territory was in Barus to the border of Aceh. And in the 15th century, the
reign of power was transferred to the Sisingamangaraja dynasty from the Bakkara
country which is now called Balige (Balige city today).
The third dynasty was named Bakkara Dynasty
which was led by Sisingamangaraja I-XII which was founded in the 16th century
to the 19th century or nearly 400 years of existence. and in its history this
dynasty experienced war with the Dutch and survived 30 years until King Sisingamangaraja
I-XII died in battle at Si Onom Hudon in 1907 as well as marking the end of the
Bakkara Dynasty.
Until now the Batak are known for their high
brotherhood between tribes, having the principle of "Whatever is for their
clan, whatever their religion is, where the Batak people are, They are brothers
to each other." This is one of the strengths of the Batak people that has
occurred both in Indonesia and across the country.
